"Let us work together on a healthy and strong university."

Why am I running for the post of the Rector of Palacký University Olomouc?

My vision for leading our university is: “let us work together on a healthy and strong university”. Together we turn visions into reality”.

Dear members of our academic community, dear students, dear colleagues, My decision to run for the position of the Rector of Palacký University Olomouc is based on my relationship with our alma mater, strong support of the academic community, eight years of service as the vice-dean at the Faculty of Physical Education, three years of service as the vice-rector for international relations and experience gained through many years of work at a number of foreign universities, academic bodies, sports associations and international organizations.

My vision for leading our university is: “let us work together on a healthy and strong university”. There are 21,000 students, 2,000 academics, 540 researchers and hundreds of other administrative and technical staff at 8 faculties and one university institute… .. Together we will turn the vision into reality ”.

I am convinced that our university definitely deserves a position among the best universities because of the commitment, determination, ambitions, activity and erudition of several generations of academics, students and all employees who care about the health and development of the university.

I would be honored to be in charge of the university, which is a recognized world institution involved in addressing the issues of health, prosperity and sustainable development of the Czech society in the context of the global and interconnected world. In this direction, we can be inspired by the partner universities involved with us in the Aurora strategic partnership project (European University Alliance). Our membership in the Aurora alliance, together with our membership in the Association of Research Universities of the Czech Republic, commits us to high quality of our study programs and social responsibility.

I am ready to defend university interests with the determination of a warrior and with the commitment of a marathon runner to persevere in finding solutions and negotiating support for the university interests at all levels. I am determined to act flexibly and face crises as a coordinator and mediator across all workplaces in order to reach a mutual consensus. I am ready to run a university with a strong team of deans, vice-rectors, the academic senate and all academic bodies in the spirit of a team player. We can do it together!

I am ready to defend university interests with the determination of a warrior and with the commitment of a marathon runner to persevere in finding solutions and negotiating support for the university interests at all levels.

My work

I have been working at Palacký University since 2001. At the Department of Adapted Physical Activity at the Faculty of Physical Education, we implemented many successful national and international projects in the field of sports for the disabled. At my university, we have achieved excellent results, dominated by the prestigious European Association for International Education (EAIE) award in 2019 and our university's greatest success in internationalization so far - participation in the AURORA European University Alliance project since November 2020.

My professional specialization is Adapted Physical Activity. It focuses on the development of sports, recreation and physical education for people with disabilities. After graduating with the master's degree from Palacký University Olomouc, I decided to gain additional experience in doctoral studies in America (PhD degree). I graduated in Texas and the topic of my dissertation was the attitudes of physical education teachers to the integration of students with physical disabilities. Among other things, I gained experience in the USA with teaching physical education, training basketball players in wheelchairs and parachute as an assistant and player in the Dallas Stars team.

I have been developing adapted physical activities at Palacký University since 2001, and in 2009, together with my colleagues, we founded the Czech APA Association. We twice organized the European Congress of Applied Physical Activities in Olomouc, and within this scientific discipline I was also involved in the establishment and management of the scientific journal European Journal of Adapted Physical Activity and the international scientific organization European Federation of Adapted Physical Activity. I am a member of the editorial board of the Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly, and I was also at the beginning of the International Paralympic Committee's educational programs.

At our home department at the Faculty of Physical Education, we have carried out many successful national and international projects in the field of sports for the disabled. In the Czech Republic, with a team of athletes with physical disabilities and their coaches, I created Czech para hockey, which we led to the Paralympics in Vancouver, and symbolically celebrated the success of the Para Hockey World Championships in Ostrava in 2019 with the team..

In the field of internationalization, we have established strategic partnerships with the University of Alberta in Canada or with Nippon Sport Science University in Japan within the academic cooperation of the Faculty of Physical Education. We have created a system to support the international mobility of academics and a system of comprehensive evaluation of academic staff.

Within the management of Palacký University Olomouc, together with colleagues we achieved excellent results, among which the evaluation of our institution by the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research in 2019 the prestigious award of the European Association for International Education (EAIE), successes in Erasmus+ KA107 projects, establishing of Kings Sedjong Institute, the creation olomoucké vzdělávací řady češtiny pro cizince “Czech it UP” of the Olomouc educational series of Czech for foreigners, “Czech it UP”, and the greatest success of our university in the field of internationalization so far - participation in the project of the Aurora European University Alliance since November 2020.

My life

I am an athlete in body and soul, loving exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

I was born in South Moravia in Valtice - the capital of wine and grew up in Břeclav. I was brought to Olomouc to study at Palacký University Olomouc, applied to study the field of physical education with special pedagogy and the field of psychology. My first memories of Olomouc are related to entrance exams and a walk through the historic center when I walked around St. Michael´s baroque church and heard the organ. I stepped inside and immediately felt that Olomouc would become an integral part of my life.

JI am an athlete in body and soul, loving exercise and a healthy lifestyle. In my youth I studied athletics, then volleyball and later dealt with the study of martial arts and sport shooting. I am a lover of good wine, tea and coffee. I love nature - forests, lakes, mountains. In the summertime I like exploring the waters of the Adriatic and in winter I enjoy the snow and exercise in the fresh air. When I need peace, I find it while meditating or playing the flutes of American Indians, whose connection with nature and at the same time with a sense of beauty inspires me. I am a student of Japanese martial arts and Japanese culture; I like Japanese gardens, ponds and bonsai. I love challenges and support people who embark on things and tasks with enthusiasm and full commitment. This winter, I have been learning to face the challenges of ice water and also the challenges of academic politics.
